I've recently read of this article about researchers at Oxford University announcing that they'd come across a breakthrough study. They've discovered an incredibly powerful new pain killer; inverted binoculars. The scientists behind the study found that subjects who looked at a wounded hand at the wrong end of the binoculars -- which made the hand appear immensely smaller, felt significantly less pain and even experienced decreased swelling. According to the researchers, this demonstrates that even the most basic bodily sensations such as pain are modulated by what we see. So next time you stub your toe, cut your finger or see the person you love in the arms of someone else, do yourself a favor: look away.
